How to Make Money Online in Nigeria 2020
1. Mini Importation
Like I promised you earlier, I am going to reveal a lot of secrets to you in this article, and you are going to be shocked!
It is now left to you whether or not you take actions.
What is mini importation and how does it work?
You see, some of those people you see posting shoes, clothes, fashion items and many more on their WhatsApp status/Facebook for sale?
They are making HUUUGE profit.
Those who aren’t will wish they knew the secret I’m about to reveal to you right now.
In fact, some of them make more profit per item than people who bought their goods from Lagos or other big markets in Nigeria.
You know why?
Because they purchase those things directly from China!
So, they are making the same profit and the wholesaler in Lagos and the retailer in various locations in Nigeria COMBINED.
How much do you think that will cost in Naira if you are buying in Nigeria?
Or maybe these?
What about these?
Check this one too.
Let me help you with some quick calculations.
From what you can see above, let’s say the average price of the hoodie is $1.3.
At the moment, 1 Dollar is around 385 Naira. So, 1.3 x 385 = N500.
So, you are buying one hoodie for Five Hundred Naira.
If you check Jumia/Konga or any Nigerian story, none of those Jackets/Hoodies will go for nothing less than N4,000.
How much do you think you will spend on importing the clothes and get them delivered to you here in Nigeria?
PS: Remember that since you are even buying in bulk, the cost on importation will be lesser than you think.
In fact, you CAN’T spend up to N1,000 on each item for importation.
So, tell me – How won’t you make HUUUGE profit?
NOTE: Even if you sell it at a rate that is cheaper that what is normally sold here in Nigeria, you will still make more profit that people that buy it from Lagos.
You don’t even need to own a shop to start selling the products. You can start showing your products on WhatsApp/Facebook.
There are trusted courier services in Nigeria that will help you deliver the products to people who buy anywhere in Nigeria.
Apart from WhatsApp status/Facebook, there are other places you can sell these products.
Jumia: You can sell your products on Jumia when you join Jumia as a seller. Check their official website for more details.
Make deals with people who already sell the product: You can easily walk into any shop where any of these things are sold. Let the owner know what you have to offer.
For example, If the person was making N500 from each product and you know you can make N1,500 from each product. Tell the person to help you sell yours and you will give him/her N1000 instead.
You still keep N500 without doing any work! All you need is to import the products.
But, that’s not even all.
Another way to promote the products you buy is through Facebook or Instagram ads.
If you have a very good knowledge of ad targeting, you will be raking in $$$ monthly without stress.
You can as well promote your business or service for free on radio (yes read it again – FOR FREE ON RADIO)
When running promotion or marketing for your business it is important to include radio promotion.
Tune in to Lagos Talks 91.3 on Saturday 10am
You can call them on 08091913913 or 08092220913
Lagosjump Radio also offer free promotion
To summarize how mini importation works.
A wholesaler buy in bulk from outside country and add his/her profit before reselling, then the reseller buys again and add profit. The cycle continues until you finally buy after series of profit has been added to it. Why not become that wholesaler (even with very little income) today? You can start with as low as N10,000.
Now, the BIG question now is, “How do you get the products to be delivered to you here in Nigeria?”
That’s where the another secret lies.
Here’s how it works.
As you will expect, purchasing the products and delivering them to USA will not be hard.
The question is where in USA do you want to deliver them and how will it get to you here in Nigeria?
If you have someone who lives there, you are in luck. Talk to them and find out their address and how they can help you ship things down to
What about those of us who don’t have anyone living abroad?
Well, you are not alone too.
You can as well buy the product to an address in China and deliver directly to Nigeria.
Have you ever heard of courier services?
That is EXACTLY how you will get your products delivered to Nigeria.
When you sign up with trusted courier services that deliver to Nigeria from US, China.
You will be given a certain address in China/USA to ship your products to once you purchase them.
Then, they will help you ship it to Nigeria. All you need is to pay them to do their work.
The fee depends on most times of the weight (in kg or pounds) of the product.
A good example of a trusted Courier service that will help you deliver your product to Nigeria is Chrisvicmall.com.
They are currently the best courier service I have seen in Nigeria and their prices are okay too.
Head over to the website to register and learn how it works.
You can as well enroll in Awogor Matthew’s Mini Importation course by clicking here and discover how to easily find scalable products that will sell in Nigeria.
Let’s move to the next one, I have more secrets to reveal to you.
2. Drop Shipping Business
So many people confuse Drop shipping with Mini importation.
Although, both have the same concept which is, “Buying cheap quality products from China and reselling them here”.
So, what’s the difference?
In dropshipping, you are kind of buying for someone specific in mind.
Think about it like a friend/family asks you to buy something for them (since they know you can do that for them at a cheap rate).
You keep collecting the list until you have a list of items worth shipping in (in order to save cost on shipping fee).
Finally, you import them and send it directly to their own address for them.
In return, you get paid by them (plus profit on each unit).
Another difference is that here, they should pay before service.
Dropshipping can be quite cheaper to start compared to Mini important, although both are relatively cheaper and easy to begin with.
3. Start a Blog
Blogging is now a very popular term when it comes to making money online.
In fact, it has grown to become one of the most popular ways to make money online.
Blogging is very diverse (although the idea is still the same), so it offers various ways to earn money online.
What is blogging and how does it work?
If you ask me, I will say blogging is like selling INFORMATION in exchange for money.
You have something very valuable that people are searching for, give it to them on your blog and you can start making 3-7 figures in $ monthly.
If you think about it, you are looking for ways to make money online, so I decided to post it here.
One way or the other, I am going to make money by giving you this information out for free.
Now, there are many questions you need to ask before you dive into the journey of blogging.
- What do I create a blog and make money from blogging?
- How can I create a blog?
- How can I make money from blogging? e.t.c
Follow me carefully.
First of all, creating a blog is very very very easy.
In fact, anyone can start a blog online today without any knowledge of coding/programming.
Unless you wish to create a professional website/customize your blog, you do not need a knowledge of coding/programming. That is a story for another day.
Now, what do you need to start a blog?
- A domain name – A domain name represents the name of your blog e.g punch.com, nairaland.com, makemoneyinnigeria.website, fastlagos.com, naijaeduinfo.com and so on.
- Hosting – A hosting is like a space you buy on the internet in other to put (i.e host) your blog. Think of it like buying a land to build your house (Moreover, the internet is not our father’s land, lol). The house is your blog while the land is the host. Are you following me?
You can basically start installing your WordPress blog with Softaculous.
If you are just starting out, you can purchase Shared hosting packages since they are cheaper.
You can get both of these from domain providers and hosting providers (most hosting providers also offer domain purchase services i.e you can buy your domain and hosting from the same company).
Some recommended domain and hosting providers include Namecheap (What I personally recommend for a starter), SiteGround and BlueHost.
You can also use local domain/hosting services like Domainking (less recommended but definitely cheaper!).
Once you have your domain name and hosting purchased, you need to:
- Host your domain on your hosting package
- Install WordPress
- Install a theme (to design/customize your blog)
- Start posting
- Start making money online (Oh, sorry… Not yet. One important thing is missing!)
What is missing?
When it comes to blogging, SEO is the acronym for Search Engine Optimization.
To put it in a simple way, SEO is what bloggers do in order to get free traffic (or organic traffic) from Google.
According to statistics, 3.5 billion Google searches are made every day, and this increases by 10% every year!
For example, when you search for “what is blogging” on Google, you see some blogs showing up like the ones below:
These blogs will continue to get visitors whether the owners are sleeping or not.
The question is – Are you ready to learn SEO and start getting free traffic from Google?
You can hire Ayoola Daniel, he’s the best SEO expert you can find in Lagos. Take a look at his portfolio by visiting; www.ayoola-seo.company.
You will see many new bloggers sharing posts on several Facebook groups and pages in order to get people to visit their blog.
Bad old days, I was once a victim! Lol, I learnt by lesson the hard way.
Before you know it.
Boom! Facebook will ban you from posting to groups again (or the admins can even remove you).
The worst part?
Facebook can even ban your URL (domain name) and you will never be able to share on Facebook again unless you are able to unblock your URL.
The whole process of sharing on Facebook groups is even a waste of time.
Don’t quote me wrong: I am not saying it is bad to get traffic from Facebook and other social media platforms. In fact, social shares and traffic can be a good thing for your blog when it comes to SEO.
So, what am I trying to say here?
I am saying, “You must not depend on social media to get traffic to your blog (people to visit your blog).
You need to start working on how to get free traffic to your blog (even when you are sleeping).
Moreover, what’s better that making money while sleeping?
That is where SEO comes in.
There are certain things you need to do in order to rank on Google when people search.
- Keyword research
- On-page SEO optimization
- Off-page SEO optimization (Link building and others)
- Technical SEO
- Google ranking
There is so much about SEO that I can never tell you about in just one blog post.
So, I am going to leave you with this post by Moz to introduce you to the basics of SEO.
If you need help with creating a blog/setting up SEO for your blog, I can do it for you at a fairly good rate (Not free please). Use the contact page to get in touch.
When it comes to blogging content is very important.
Moreover, 2 Million Blog Posts are created every day!
Question is: Do you want to create just another content or you want to create one that stands out and beat you competitors in ranking? I leave you to answer that!
Once you start getting traffic on your blog, monetizing it is quite easy.
You can make money on your blog through:
- Ads networks (e.g AdSense, Media.net, AdSterra, PropellerAd, ePom.com, adblade.com, advertising.com, epsilon.com, epom.com e.t.c) – Adsense is the most common!
- Affiliate Products & services (I will explain affiliate marketing later in this guide)
- Paid Advert Placement – Companies start to pay you to place their banners on your website.
- Sponsored Posts – You can also get paid to help publish sponsored posts on your blog so that people can see the products they sell/services they offer.
- Selling Your Own Products – It can be digital products like ebooks or even physical products like fashion items that will be delivered to them.
- Rendering services – So many people pay me to set up their blog and do SEO services for them. I can simply put this on my blog to reach more people.
4. Start a YouTube Channel
Another way to make money online in Nigeria is to start a YouTube channel.
The funny thing is just like blogging, you can make money sharing anything that people will love on YouTube.
In fact, that is why the process is called Vlogging (i.e Video BLOGGING).
- Are you a comedian and can make comedy skits? Then, you can start making money on YouTube!
- Can you create football highlight/skills/goals compilation videos? You know guys love that!
- Do you cook very well? Then, create a cooking tutorial channel for local foods or even more.
There are just too many YouTube channels ideas that you can start with.
You know the best part?
You can even start a YouTube channel if you don’t want to show your face.
That’s not all.
You may not even need a camera to start a YouTube channel at all.
So, what’s your excuse?
For example, if you check many YouTube channel that post Productivity and Self-improvement videos, you will observe that they don’t need to show their face.
All they do is create videos that has animations and images.
Even if you want to start a tutorial channel, you can create tutorial videos with whiteboard description, without actually showing your face.
These are things you can learn online for free on YouTube.
All these, you can learn how to do online with Microsoft Powerpoint and other presentation and video editing softwares.
Check the video above and other videos in the Channel.
Do you see the owner of the channel showing his/her face?
Yet, this video alone has raked in over 19 million views at the time of writing this post, and the channel has over 550,000 subscribers already.
According to socialblade.com, the channel is making between $766 – $12,300 monthly. That is between N300,000 – N4,000,000 monthly!
Or let me show you a local point of view.
This channel above do not produce their own comedies.
They just post comedies from other sources (e.g Nigeria comedians like AY, Woli Agba, Woli Arole, Mark Angel, Twyse and others or from Movies e.g Aki and Pawpaw movies).
And they have gained over 195,000 subscribers already!
According to socialblade.com, they make between $31 – $494 monthly.
Imagine making $400 monthly for posting videos you don’t even own. Sweet cash!.
Whatever you think people will watch, create it and upload on YouTube.
Once you start getting good number of subscribers and views, you can monetize your YouTube channel (Vlog) with Google AdSense.
You can even sell products on your channel (Affiliate marketing, I will explain later in this guide).
I am not going to deceive you, it might not be easy at first.
But, once you do what’s right (share your videos, perform YouTube SEO and you are consistent), it will turn out to become a passive source of income for you.
What you need to get started on YouTube (Vlogging)
- A good idea of which type of channel you are started
- A good camera to record videos (only if you decide to show your face)
- A PC.
- Video Editing Software e.g Windowshare Filmora, Adobe Premier pro e.t.c
- Video Editing skills (this you can improve with practice)
So, are you ready to start YouTube channel? The guide below is all you need.
The guide will not only show you how to start your own YouTube channel.
It will also get you started on how to do some basic set up like creating YouTube channel art, icons and some other things.
You can also use a free tool that I personally use to create your own YouTube channel art, End screen and thumbnail.
It’s called Snappa. It’s very easy to use and there are so many done-for-you designs there.
Check it out here.
But, that’s not all.
There are so many tips online out there on how to grow your YouTube channel.
Just like blogging, there is also SEO when it comes to YouTube.
By doing video SEO, you will rank higher for terms when people search on YouTube.
Are you getting tired already?
Well, you better not be.
Because we are just getting started.
Remember: You want to know the secrets, and I am willing to show you.
So, let’s continue.
5. Affiliate Marketing
Let me give you a simple analogy.
Mr. A sells product A for $100 and make a profit of $50 on each sale.
Mr. A then tells Mr. B, “Hey Mr. B, if you help me sell my product, I will give you $25 on each sale“.
Mr. B agrees and starts promoting the products to the people he knows will buy.
So, every time Mr. B sells Mr. A’s product for $100, he gets $25 while the owner of the product Mr. A keeps the $75 (i.e $25 profit for Mr. A).
I believe that’s simple enough.
Simply say, affiliate marketing involves the promotion and sales of product(s) owned by another individual or company in order to get commission on sales.
Sounds easy, right?
Now, the question that comes to the mind is, “How do I get people to promote the product to?”.
At least, we are talking about making money online in Nigeria, I can’t go around and start promoting products from house to house.
Well, you are right.
That’s where traffic source comes in.
Remember when I was discussing Blogging and YouTube (Vlogging) earlier, I said you can make money from those 2 sources through affiliate marketing too.
Do you now know why?
Let me enlighten you more.
Let’s say you own a tech blog/channel and you write a post (or post a video) on the best PC for gaming in 2020 (you have to be a tech guy that knows his thing to post a review like this and earn the trust of your audience).
Anyway, let’s say you do things right and you rank for the keyword and a lot of people start coming to your channel.
Do you know that you can simple add affiliate links to Amazon so that people who are interested in buying any of those PC will just go ahead and buy.
That way, you earn commission from Amazon for referring people to buy.
That’s affiliate marketing for you, and your YouTube/Blog is your traffic source in this case.
Look at a good example below:
Or this other channel:
It can even be home remedy videos, like the one below:
After providing a value, the YouTuber links them to buy the product on Amazon.
All these can be done for blog posts, and there is NO LIMIT to what you can do with it.
Does that mean you cannot start affiliate marketing if you don’t have a blog or website?
No, in fact, it is very very possible.
YouTube/Blog is one traffic source, there are so many other traffic sources you can use to sell products.
Some of them include:
- Email list
The first 2 are quite easy to understand.
The third one is the most important at the end of the day.
Affiliate marketers will say, “The money is in the list”.
Do you receive emails from some marketers telling you about this product and that product every time?
This is the part where some people call Email marketing.
But, as you have seen, making money from affiliate marketing in Nigeria is more than the email marketing part alone.
Do you remember how they got your email?
Let me give you an hint: They had something of VALUE that you needed. Then, they told you to drop your email and sign up before they can send it to your email address.
You’ve seen many of those things online, right?
Yes, that’s how they got your email.
First, they offer you value for free (something you just want to get by all means).
Then, they start norturing you, sending you emails that will help you or your business for free.
Then, they finally start sending you offers of things that will help you get even better. Those ones are now paid products.
Because of the trust you now have in them, you buy the product and it continues like that.
Now, that’s what list building is all about.
If you want to get started with affiliate marketing.
There are so many platforms you can use to start finding products to promote and sell for commission.
You may use:
- Amazon (check to make sure the product you are promoting is usually delivered to Nigeria before you start promoting)
- Warriorplus.com (this one is restricted to Internet marketing products)
- Commission Junction (CJ)
- Impact Radius
PS: Make sure to check the available payment methods before you start promoting offers/products to avoid stories that touch later. If you have problems with payment method, let me know. I will help you.
I can tell you one thing for sure.
The free affiliate marketing training videos by Prosper Noah will help you begin your journey, and teach you everything you need to know.
Check it out below.
That takes us to the next method to make money online in Nigeria.
6. Offer Graphics Design Services
I am talking about professional graphics, 2D and 3D graphics that people REALLY want to pay for (not the old native designs you will see around).
The best part about this is that there is no limit to the people who need this service.
Whether you own a business, you are hosting an event or you want to show your products/services, you are definitely going to need professional graphic designs that speak for you!
When you see businesses online posting beautiful graphics on their social media pages like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and more, they paid professional graphics designer for those services.
If you can use software like Corel Draw, Photoshop and even Android apps to create wonderful designs, you need to start getting paid today.
The question is, “Are you ready to offer this service to the people who need it in exchange for some cool cash?”.
If yes, then this is just one opportunity for you.
You may be saying, “I don’t even know how to design graphics not to talk of professional ones”.
Some will even complain that they do not have a laptop.
If you fall in any of the categories, then you are not alone.
First, you can learn professional graphic design online in few just few days/weeks online.
In fact, there are so many courses online (some are FREE, some are PAID) that will turn you from a newbie into a professional graphic designer.
If you know how to use Google, you can find many free courses online. If you are looking for paid courses, I will advise you to check Udemy or Coursera.
You can start with this free graphics design courses from Udemy like the one below:
NOTE: There are some amazing paid courses on Udemy that cost around $11. Just head to udemy.com and search for graphics design courses. You will see thousands of them. Find one that meets your budget and offer what you want.
Now, the next question is, “I have the skills, how do I start earning money?”.
Another way to ask the question is, “How do I find clients who are willing and ready to pay good money for the service?”
Now, let me tell you something.
Before people can pay for your service, first they must see what you are able to offer them.
This is why it is very essential to build your graphics design portfolio.
Then, find job postings on freelancing websites like:
In other words, you need to create a collection of professional graphic designs for your friends, family, businesses, companies or agencies that they will love!
Be it a logo, banner, 2D/3D graphics and many more.
You need to display these designs online for people to see and share.
Twitter is a very good place to start displaying your designs.
I have seen many people become lucky when they design and display online for big companies like Pepsi, Coca-cola and more only to catch their attention and be called by them.
Now, that’s for the lucky ones. I am not going to base this whole thing on luck, I am just showing you what you can potentially do with this skill.
Other than that, build a very good portfolio and join freelancing websites where people look for people with skills like this.
Once you are very good at what you do and you can create professional designs that stand out, finding clients is going to be easier.
6. Write and Sell e-books
Now, there are two ways to go about this.
If you want to sell e-books written by other people, then scroll back up and read about affiliate marketing.
Because, in that case, you are only going to be paid a commission for selling people’s product.
Here, I am talking about writing your own e-book and selling them.
Before you can do this, the first question you ask yourself is, “What value can I offer that people will pay for?”
Once you answer the question, then you are one-step closer.
Seek value, provide value and money will follow.
Now, start writing your e-book.
All you need is a laptop to write your e-book.
With just Microsoft Word, you can write you e-book and convert it to a PDF.
And even if you don’t have a laptop, you can write on your phone and edit/format it later with a friend’s laptop or so.
If you don’t know where to even start from, then this guide by Copyblogger is all you need to get started.
Now, the e-book is finally ready and filled with valuable information.
The next BIG QUESTION is, “How do you get people to buy?“
Well, there are many ways to get your e-book in the face of potential buyers.
Well, you can start by telling your family and friends about it.
Tell them to help you share on their social media platforms and also help you tell their friends of friends.
But, the majority of the work has to come from you.
If you have good number of followers that trust you on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, good for you.
If not, you should consider using Google, Facebook and Instagram ads to promote your e-book.
It is very important to have a good e-book cover and well-targeted ad.
You have to know who your audience are (the people who are interested in your product and will buy).
If you have the wrong target or fail to consider your audience, you will waste money and effort.
For example, if you have an e-book on “How to create a PayPal account in Nigeria” and your audience is set to USA, nobody needs to tell you that you have just wasted some ad credits.
It is not about the country alone, there are other things to consider like interests, gender, age e.t.c.
If you have a website/blog that drives traffic, that is another bonus way for you to promote your e-book.
7. Become A Social Media Influencer/PR
Being someone who keeps both eyes open for income opportunities, I have been able to see what most people don’t see about social media influencers/PR.
The potential is so much, yet some people still think “Those social media influencers are wasting their time”.
Even some so-called influencers I’ve seen are not maximizing their audience enough.
You don’t need to have 50,000 followers to be an influencer.
In fact, getting some fake followers will make you FAR from what an actual influencer is.
What you need is the audience that trust you.
Now, here’s how it works.
- First, you provide Value.
- Then, you build Audience.
- By doing that, you build trust.
Finally, you may now Monetize.
That’s what I call the VAT formular (not the Value Added Tax that you pay, this one is paid to you, lol).
There are so many types of social media influencers, although most of them end of combining all (there is nothing bad in that, it’s all good).
- Instagram influencers
- Twitter influencers
- WhatsApp TV owners
- Facebook influencers
- LinkedIn influencers
- YouTube influencers
- TikTok influencers (Though new but the stats are mind-blowing)
You probably know this already, but let me say it again.
Some of the ways you can make money from being an influencer include:
- Getting paid for sponsored adverts or promoting other people’s businesses
- Selling your own products/services to your audience
- Affiliate marketing (your audience will be your list here, read more on affiliate marketing above if you didn’t).
Now, the $365,000 question is, “How do I become an Influencer on Twitter, Instagram or other social media platforms?”
Get ready for the juice.
1. Grow your social media followers
No person or brand will pay an influencer to promote their products/services if they don’t see proof that you really have an audience to promote to.
That is why it is very essential to grow your social media followers.
You probably know this already and will just like to know EXACTLY HOW TO START GROWING YOUR FOLLOWERS.
Let me share some tips with you.
- Meet with other influencers to help you:
See, if 10 people decline your request, there will be one nice enough to help you.
But, before they do, they must see what is so unique about you and what you do (or at least you should show them).
Imagine if Dangote helped every Nigerian that asked him for 1 Million Naira.
He will soon run out, I don’t care how rich he is.
That’s why you see Angel investors looking out for the people who have the best and most promising business pitch.
Just picture it this way:
You won’t be the only person that will be asking influencers to help you, so why should they help you?
If you can’t answer the question above, then this is probably not for you.
If you can answer the question, then go ahead and show them when you reach out to them.
I’m definitely not going to leave you with only that.
- Do follow for follow
See, don’t be deceived.
As long as they people who you follow are following you back, it is worth it then.
If you all agree to follow each other, and you all ACTUALLY DO.
It doesn’t make you a loser.
The question is, “What do you want to turn the followers into?”
You know that the fact that you followed each other doesn’t mean they are actually following you at the early stage.
So, in order to turn them into real followers, you need to engage them.
That, I will show you how to do very soon.
For now, let’s move on.
- Learn to use trends and hashtags to your advantage
You know what’s trending now?
Well, check your Twitter page and you will know.
Do you know how to use that to your advantage?
When you see people posting stuffs on Twitter like the one below:
Forget #peruzzi #dbanj #blacklivesmatter #wizkid, check out so so so so so…
Do you understand what they are trying to do there?
They are using the trending topics and hashtags to their advantage.
Some are actually very good at blending the trends together in a statement so it doesn’t sound like they are forcing it.
By doing that, they have a good chance of getting their tweets in the face of many people who are checking the trends (and of course more people are checking the trends at that time than you can imagine).
And you will see some trends having hundred of thousands of tweets.
The question is, “How do you want your own tweet/content become the one that people engage with?”
Bloggers will popularly say, “CONTENT IS KING”.
Now that I think about it, it is just as important in social media influencing.
If you content is not engaging or satisfying, people will just ignore it and keep scrolling.
I can’t seem to give you enough, let’s move on.
- Use sponsored adverts on other influencers’ pages
Another way to get more followers is to pay other influencers to promote your page.
This one is quite popular among WhatsApp TV owners.
If they are not going to help you post for free, then you might as well pay them to do it.
Just make sure your advert is very promising and you don’t end up wasting some $$$.
While you are building your followers/audience, it is important to do some other important things.
2. Post engaging contents
Content is very very very important (I’m sorry for repeating it)
But, content is very very very important (Now, I’m not sorry again, lol).
What you post matters the most.
It is hard enough to build your followers, it is quite easy to lose them very fast.
Once your audience don’t like what you post, they’ll lose interest and stop following you in no time. It’s just a click away!
So, you have to ask yourself again, “Who are my target audience and what type of post will be interesting to them?”
In fact, you need to ask yourself this question right from the moment you start building your followers/audience.
- Right audience + Wrong audience = Fail
- Wrong audience + Right content = Fail
Your right content must be meeting the right audience, or you can get ready to lose them all.
Irrespective of who your audience are, certain posts have proven to always convert well.
Your posts should be:
- Engaging: Something your followers can comment on and talk about e.g questions
- Relatable: Posts your content can relate with, something you both share in common e.g Life in Nigeria, NEPA situation in Nigeria, popular TV shows and more.
Are you still with me?
I am not done with you yet.
3. Build a community not a kingdom
It is better to build a community than to build a kingdom.
When it comes to social media influencing, it is not going to be easy maintaining the community on the long run but it is going to be worth trying hard to.
How do you build a community?
Try as much as possible to respond to comments on your posts.
Reply your messages as much as you can.
Let your followers know that you care about them and let them feel like you are there because of them.
Remember that, in fact, you are actually there because of them.
4. Use images in your tweets/posts
Tweets with images are most effective.
According to a research by ThebalanceSmallbusiness, tweets with images have:
- 36% more click-throughs
- 31% increase in website visits
- 41% more retweets
- 48% increase in tweets being liked.
- 33% increase in visitor to lead conversions
Find a good image for your tweet, and you are definitely going to get better results.
5. Learn proper timing
Some people won’t tell you this (or maybe they just don’t know too).
Timing is very important in this game.
Apart from posting just to catch cruise on social media, there are actually specific time and days that you should post in other to get the maximum engagement possible.
Imagine posting on Twitter about school life/job on a Monday morning around 9:00 am when most of the people you are trying to get their attention are already in class/workplace.
That will be a very bad idea.
This is another reason why it is very important to know your audience.
According to a post on thebalancesmb.com which was based on a study,
- The highest average click-through rates (CTR) occurs between Mondays and Thursdays, 1 pm and 3 pm, with no specific peak times. This would be the ideal time to post if your goal is to get people to click-through to your website or landing page.
- The worst time for posting appears to be weekend evenings (after 8 pm), and Fridays after 3 pm. These times coincide with the lowest amount of engagement, clicks, re-tweets, etc.
Also, learn to study the performance of your tweet as you progress.
6. Learn from other big influencers
I don’t have to say much on this, do I?
I don’t think so.
So, let’s move on.
7. Your profile says a lot about you
First impressions matters a lot, you know that to be true.
The first impression your followers will get about you will be in your profile picture, cover picture and bio.
Make them as good as possible.
8. Be consistent, put in effort
I am not a motivational speaker but I know certain things don’t come easily in life.
Keep pushing, keep trying over and over.
Try new things, learn new things and keep striving until you hit it.
REMEMBER: I am not a motivational speaker, I am just here to show you the secrets to make money online in Nigeria.
9. Be your own person
Don’t try to copy any influencer.
Whether you like it or not, you can’t do anyone better than they can do their selves. And no one can do you better than yourself.
You can be inspired by certain influencers, but never ever copy them.
Be yourself, your followers are going to love you for what you post and who you are.
Make sure that isn’t some else.
So, are you ready to start the journey?
8. Write Articles and Get Paid
Big brands and bloggers are looking for writers to write articles and blog content for them.
The question is, “Are you ready and willing to learn how to write quality contents that users ACTUALLY want to read and share?”
Well, it doesn’t end in just writing contents.
Anybody can pick up a laptop and start typing, but these people are looking for writers that can write optimized contents that RANK ON GOOGLE.
There is a lot to writing optimized contents started from the title, the URL, how to PROPERLY write introductory paragraphs, sprinkling your keywords naturally in your blog post, using LSI keywords, meta description and even more.
Write for users, optimize for search engines. Keep your users in mind when you are writing. When your users love your content, Google will love your content.
If you want to learn on-page SEO from A-Z, the definitive guide on on-page SEO by Brian Dean on backlinko.com is what you need.
Once you have improved your on-page SEO skills and can naturally write contents that are better suited for ranking, you will be a step ahead of the average content writer.
There are many freelancing websites online that you can get clients who will hire you to write contents for them.
Some of them include:
Now, let’s move on.
9. CPA Marketing
CPA means Cost Per Action.
I want to get you know what marketing means.
Anyway, this is how it works.
There are programmes online that are willing to pay you when you refer people to perform certain actions.
No no no, these are not income programmes (I will most likely not include income programmes as part of my list in this guide).
I am NOT talking about NNU, Wakanda, Giftalworld and others here.
All you need is to register, get a referral link and share it to your friends on social media platforms, or send it to your email list.
Once your friends/audience click the link and perform a certain action, you will be paid a certain amount.
That’s all! The more the required ACTIONS carried out by your the people you refer, the more you get paid.
That’s why they are called Cost-Per-Action programmes.
There are some Pay-per-Lead affiliate programmes that involve CPA.
10. Sell Online Courses
You are probably thinking, “How is this even different from selling e-books?”.
There’s no much difference, they are somehow similar.
But, if you ask me.
Courses are more modern and dynamic compared to e-books.
E-books are mostly in form of written text in a .pdf file, .txt file, MS word file or other text document formats.
Courses can come in many form such as text formats, videos or audios.
Video courses in particular are gaining more popularity and are much more appreciated that text documents.
If you can compile a course (text, video or audio), then you can sell it on any of the platforms below:
- P2Pu e.t.c
11. Start Forex Trading
Forex trading stands for Foreign Exchange.
If you are not strong, move to the next way to make money online in Nigeria below. 😂
You see, Forex trading is a very good way to make money online in Nigeria in 2020 and beyond, it is also a very good way to lose your money online VERY FAST if you don’t know what you are doing.
I am telling you the truth oh.
Oya, you want to form hard guy/hard lady abi.
I will show you how it works.
Let me explain to you how it works IN A VERY SIMPLE WAY.
Forex trading is more complex than what I am about to explain.
But, I am trying to dumb-proof it in a way even A COMPLETE BEGINNER will understand.
Now, think about Naira and Dollar.
These two are a currency pair (although you won’t find that in Forex, I am using what you will understand).
As at 2016, 1 dollar was equal to 200 Naira.
Now, as at 5th of June, 2020, 1 dollar is over 380 Naira.
Imagine you had N200 back in 2016 and you exchanged it to collect 1 dollar (In Forex, you bought Dollar while selling your Naira).
In June 2020, that one dollar you are holding will be worth 380 Naira instead of the 200 Naira you bought it back in 2016.
That’s almost 2X profit for you because you sold Naira to buy Dollar.
So, basically Forex is about buying and selling.
NOTE: The analogy above does not mean that you mean earn N180 in the next 2 years if you buy 1 dollar today, lol.
I am just trying to explain in a way I think you will understand easily.
You can make tens/hundreds/thousands of dollars in minutes, hours, days, weeks or month.
There is no limit to what you can earn from Forex trading.
But, there’s one thing I must repeat again.
Forex is one of the ways to make money online and also one of the fastest ways to LOSE money.
You need to learn how to analyze the money, understand market structures, be psychologically strong and be committed to learning in order to do well in Forex.
So, before you pour your money into it, find a teacher and mentor who will show you how to get started.
I can show you how to be profitable in Forex market.
I will leave you with one thing:
GOLDEN RULE OF INVESTING: Never invest what you can’t afford to lose in Forex trading or Cryptocurrencies.
12. Invest in Cryptocurrencies
If you have been making money online or offline from other sources, then investing in cryptocurrencies is a way to make MORE money online in Nigeria in 2020 and beyond.
There are so many currencies that you can invest your money on.
The whole cryptocurrency stuff is based on a Blockchain and is decentralized (that way, no one is controlling your money and it is very transparent).
Once you purchase them, wait for the prices of the currencies to rise and you can sell them at higher rates compared to what you bought them.
Off all the cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin is the most common and has the highest search volume.
There are other popular cryptocyrrencies called the ALTCOINS (Alternative Currencies).
Some of them include:
PS: There are over 5,000 ALTCOINS.
Before you invest in any of them, make sure you understand how they work.
The value of a cryptocurrency depends on the faith of investors, its integration into financial markets, public interest in using it, and its performance compared to other cryptocurrencies.
I see so many people trying to mine cryptocurrencies on their phone.
The truth is, it is the closest thing to IMPOSSIBLE.
If you understand how Bitcoin mining works and what you need to get started, you will stop looking for way to mine free Bitcoin online in Nigeria and rather start looking for cash to invest.
So, how do you get started with buying and investing in cryptocurrencies?
- First, decide which currency you want to invest in.
- Next, you need to get a Wallet
- Join a crypto exchange to Buy and Sell your cryptocurrency
- Keep on learning about Cryptocurrencies and never stop learning.
13. Sell Services On MarketPlace Platforms

- And many more.
As a matter of fact, you are going to find out that people are actually paying for basically anything that will help them.
14. Sell on Jumia/Konga
As common as this is, so many people still don’t know that they can actually sell on Jumia or Konga.
Jumia/Konga do not own all the products you are buying from them. They are just platforms set up as market places for sellers to post their products while buyers buy. In return, they make money while the seller also makes money.
How it Works:
Once you have a product that can fit into any category on these trusted e-commerce websites, you can join the programme and own a store on Jumia.
Like this one:
A store that has made over 100 sales online in 1 year!
Despite the low fulfillment rate (20%).
You can sell basically anything people buy like this:
Jumia will help you get your products in the face of as many people as possible and increase your sales definitely.
In return, you pay Jumia/Konga a certain amount to be a part of the programme while you still keep a major share of the profit.
You also get seller support service from Jumia. You will receive free online/offline training from Jumia.
You get higher visibility, higher sales and more revenue by just posting your goods on Jumia/Konga.
You are totally in control and the commission is low compared to the revenue you will generate.
When you sell on Konga, you choose the price for your return policy, your delivery method on paid orders, and other important options.
Sounds cool, right?
Below is a testimony someone in the Jumia programme:
PS: I am not in any way affiliated to Jumia in this programme, I am just trying to show you ways to make money online in Nigeria in 2020 and beyond.
So, the big question is, “How do you get started?”
How to Sell On Jumia
- Click on Register to Sell on Jumia
- Fill the registration form.
- Submit and follow the instructions on the next page
How to Sell On Konga
- Fill the form properly
- Submit and follow the instructions
You don’t even need to have a physical store to get started with this.
And if you do already, this is a good opportunity to boost your sales.
With the increasing focus on e-commerce and online shopping, there is no limit to what you can do with this.
15. Join Jumia Affiliate Programme
Do you know you can make money on Jumia by buying for people?
Sounds akward, lol.
You are probably thinking, “Why the hell will people allow me to buy for them when they can buy for theirselves?”
I feel you if that’s what you are thinking.
But, here’s the deal.
People will allow you to buy certain things for them online if you can make them believe that you know what’s best for them.
Let me give you a good example.
One of my boss and mentor, Isaac Inegbenehi (CEO of Flashlearners.com) is a tech geek.
When it comes to laptop and phones, I can beat my chest that he knows what is this and that (at least FAR more than an average user)
He posts a lot of these tech stuffs on his WhatsApp status.
- Why this phone is better than the other and vice versa
- How 4GB RAM Phone/Laptop can still be faster than 16GB RAM (Yes, don’t be shocked). It’s not all about the numbers.
- Laptop cores, processors and some interesting tech stuffs, facts and myth busters.
When you begin to view his statuses, you will start to realise that phones are not all about RAM, Camera, Battery and Internal storage (ROM).
And because you finally realize these are true, his status viewers (including myself) begin to trust him that he knows way more than laptop/phones than us.
So, because of that, he gets a lot of questions about phones and laptop and which to buy e.t.c.
That way, when you want to buy a laptop/phone and you want the best, you go to him and he buys the best one (based on your budget) for you on Jumia.
Anyway, he is a Jumia Sales consultant and he has helped A LOT of people buy devices that are worth hundreds of thousands of Naira.
In return, he gets commission on each of the product he buys for them.
How to get started
- Meet an agent to add you to Jumia jforce,
- Show people nice and cheap products on Jumia,
- Convince them to place orders through you.
- Tell them that you will be able to slash the shipping fee for them as a Jumia Agent (Which is true).
- The orders will be delivered to their address and they can even pay on delivery.
- You will get a commission for every order you place.
- Jumia will even pay you when you order items for yourself.
16. Create Professional Websites/Blogs For Businesses
What if I tell you people build websites for as much as 900k in Nigeria. Huge right? People build successful blogs and sell off for a very high amount and I personally have flipped blogs several times.
You can learn to build professional websites and blog for businesses. All you have to do is to learn the mastery behind website development.
You can either decide to learn website development with WordPress the most popular CMS or learn to build websites with actual code. That way, you’re diving into coding which I will cover even more as you read further.
To get started with building professional websites with WordPress, you should enroll in this free Udemy Course below:
And if you’ve made up your mind to learn to code for website development. Here are a few things you should know. Web development is divided into two namely:
- Front-End Development
- Backend Development
Don’t run! I’ll explain:
Front-End Website Development
See HTML as the building block of your webpage. In order to be able to build layouts for your website, you need to learn how to create blocks using HTML because blocks (Grids) make up the web.
Here’s a quick course to get you started:
I don’t really know how to explain this but I’m very sure you will get what I mean. Backend website development has everything to do with server and admin.
Websites that exist on the web aren’t just thereafter hitting the published website. They are actually being managed by web servers and in other words, the admin dashboard.
You can create admin dashboard for websites and add functionalities such as add image, add text, delete posts, schedule post e.t.c
Here’s a quick course to get you started:
So in the end when you’ve learned how to build websites either with WordPress or with code. You can charge as high as NGN500,000 depending on how big the project is. A moderate fee for website development in Nigeria costs around NGN50,000+.
Anything less, you’re being underpaid and you shouldn’t accept that kind of offer because you are not really making money. You’re only being used.
17. Create Mobile Apps/Software For Businesses
For reals building stunning mobile applications can be stressful. In fact, you tend to quit programming if your laptop can’t even run a simple emulator. That’s a joke though. LOL!
You can learn to build mobile apps for businesses with React Native, a programming language for building mobile apps or build a smart app that you can sell for some huge dollars.
P.S: We talked about flipping apps and websites and I’m pretty sure, you can still find your way to the top to read about how to flip your app for a thousand dollars.
Building apps can be very interesting especially when you know what you are doing. It is not hard and can be learned and mastered pretty fast depending on how committed you are or your previous experience with a programming language.

This will give you a strong foundation, and the techniques you learn here will be valuable in your own Flutter apps.
So by the end of this course you will be a competent Flutter developer.
18. Start An eCommerce Website
Another cool way to make money online in Nigeria is by running an eCommerce store. There a lot of eCommerce websites that have proven that running an eCommerce store for your business can help take your business from Zero to 100. One of such brand is the MyBeardGang – which sells beard oils to people across Nigeria. They started from running a blog to becoming the biggest beard oil seller in Nigeria just by running their own eCommerce website.
This now brings us to how you can build your own eCommerce website. You can contact us by clicking here to set up a quick eCommerce store for your business or you learn how to do so by yourself. The only difference will be that we would be able to get you, customers, faster from Google absolutely for free and you might not get that done in 2 years if you consider doing it all by yourself.
Here’s a quick guide on how to build your own eCommerce store from scratch:
So we talked about starting an online store for your business. How about you who do not have a business at all and is interested in building an eCommerce store. Don’t worry, we have the right tips on launching, and growing a profitable eCommerce business just for you.

Research your competition: Just like Facebook and Twitter, you will always have competitors in business. To better have good chances of earning big from your eCommerce website, it is smarter to research your prospective competitors.

19. Create Niche Websites
Another interesting way to make money online in Nigeria is by running a niche website. An example of a niche website is hoodiehills.com, a blog I created a few months ago to sell Amazon Hoodies using my affiliate link.
- Do SEO Set Up For Blogs/Websites – create your own SEO agency
- Test Games Online And Get Paid – paid game player, swaggable, expo 360, smiley panel
- Test Websites And Get Paid – try my ui, user testing, vaidately, enroll, userfeel
- Develop a software
20. Sell Websites on Flippa
This one is only for those who have websites or can build websites.
If you have built a lot of websites and blogs like me using WordPress, creating a website blog/website will become easier for you.
In fact, you will be able to build blogs and set it up in less than 4 hours.
I don’t have much to say here.
Head over to flippa.com and see what they have in store for you (or ACTUALLY what you have in store for them).
21. Buy and Sell Domain Names
This is another way I have seen many people make money online. This one is common among some Nigerian Bloggers.
Basically, what they do is to find domains that are worth more than what a new domain name worth’s.
Sounds confusing? Let me break it down.
Normally, anyone can head over to Namecheap.com or Domaingking.ng to buy a domain for their website/blog.
But, there are certain people who want to buy domain that they believe have edge in ranking on Google SERP.
Others want to redirect them to their blog in order to try to rank higher.
These are mostly old expired domains or domains with high DA/PA but low spam score.
So, all you need to do is to find an old expired domain with good DA/PA and low spam score and purchase it at a reasonable price.
Then, head over to Nigerian Bloggers Facebook groups (or meet anyone you think might be interested) and sell it to them at a higher price.
Keep the profit and repeat the cycle.
Trust me, people are seriously looking for these domains and ready to pay for them?
So, can you help them find it, buy it and get them to pay more for it?
If yes, then you can start with GoDaddy Auctions to find expired domain or www.expireddomains.net.
22. Participate in Online Contests
These one is making money by with creativity.
If you have creative writing/art skills, then you should know there are many online contests that are paying up to $100,000 or more (Don’t be shocked).
Some of them will even invite the winners abroad to attend the ceremony where awards will be given.
You know the best part?
It is totally free to participate in these contests. Therefore, you have nothing to lose.
PS: There are also contests that you need to pay entry fee to participate in. If you ask me, I bet that they aren’t worth it (especially for a starter).
If you have very good skills in writing fiction, non-fiction, fantasy, horror, novel, mystery, humor, short stories, science fiction or more, then you will definitely find contests that are free to participate in.
On that same page, you will find a lot of resources that will also help you improve your writing skills in order to stand a better chance at winner.
In fact, if you are a beginner writer, you will find free course, guides and resources to help you get started.
You can also search for writing contests on Google to find even more.
Trust me, there are SO MANY writing contests that it will be IMPOSSIBLE not to find one to participate in.
Enough of writing contests, what about art contests?
There are many painting, drawing, photography, short film and many more art contest you can participate in.
The list is endless, check out some of them here.
Like I said earlier, you can always search on Google for free entry art contests.
NOTE: Always take your time to go through the requirements and eligibility of any online contest before you start/send your entry. Some are restricted to certain countries.
“To build self-esteem, you have to outface your negative beliefs about yourself and change them.” ―
23. Sell Photos/Stock Images Online
Do you know you sell high quality stock images on Stock images download websites and start making money as soon as people download the images?
You get paid on a per download basis.
Well, this one is only for people who good Photography and Photo editing skills.
That way, you can make money while doing what you enjoy doing.
If you upload low quality images, nobody will download and no one will pay you.
And if you are thinking about uploading images that are subjected to copyright (not owned by you), your account will be cancelled too.
Before you even think about starting, there are a few tips you should know about.
You will find a list of good places to upload and sell stock images online.
Take CanStockPhoto for example.
Photographers will never be charged a cent for uploading their photos.
You always retain ownership of your images, and once you earn $50.00 USD, you can request PayPal cash-out.
You can see the payment schedule below:
|Custom Licenses (e.g. exclusive rights, logos, etc.)||50%|

24. Online Income Program
I was not going to add this before, because of the way it normally ends.
Most online income programs are legit until the owner says “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!”
If it’s not coming from the owner, it will come from another source (just like the way Racksterly was put to an end because of issue associated with payments through Paystack/Flutterwave – You can read more about it on TechCabal).
See, I won’t lie to you.
I also made money from Online Income program (NNU to be specific).
You see that’s N200,000 from affiliate earning on NNU (Although, I only got around N93,000 – The system crashed in the same month when I made N106,000 from referrals. Before then, I used to make like N20,000 – N30,000 and I got paid for like 3-4 months).
Back then, I don’t waste time on readings news, commenting e.t.c because I was busy with my blog and academics.
I got referrals from my blog through SEO (soft work) even while I was sleeping.
And this is another N26,000 in a month that I earned on NNUForm (which again I didn’t get paid)
Since the beginning of 2020, I have not participated in any online income program and I decided to not again.
What about GiftalWorld? Although, I didn’t join, it also crashed.
So, what am I saying?
Income programmes can be legit at the early stages but at the end, it will crash one day because of the principles they are built on.
So may people that join online income programmees these days join with the intent, “Let me quickly make money from it before it crashes”.
Well, maybe it’s worth risking (since most of them have low registration fee).
But, if you REALLY want to start making money online in Nigeria, you need to get your heads up and start doing something that will give you money.
25. Start your Podcast
Podcasts are not quite popular yet in Nigeria.
But, if you think about it, Social media influencing/PR was not either.
So, this one is for you if you are looking into the future.
That is because for now, an average Nigerian will rather watch TV than sit beside a radio.
There are a few ones gaining popularity like the Loose Talk Podcast hosted by journalists, Osagie Alonge, Ayomide Tayo and Steve Dede, Submarine and a Roach circa, I Said What I Said, The RantCasts, The Powder Room and many more.
As co-host of Loose Talk Podcast, Ayomide Tayo puts it, “Podcasts in Nigeria are still a subculture, and not mainstream culture – which is still largely controlled by radio. Like it or not, asides the fact that advertisers do not fully understand podcasts yet, it’s a numbers game and obviously, radio still has the numbers.”
In truth though, we will get there. Not so long ago, advertising with social media influencers were anathema, until some brands decided to take advantage of social media and reaped handsome rewards from vertical engagements that social media influencers helped them garner.
So, it might take time, but some podcasts will end up securing the bag.
